We are experiencing a mass tree die out here in Atlanta. The old oaks, all planted lovingly over a hundred years ago, are falling over at alarming rates dues to erosion, damage and age. This idea was born out of the death of one of these trees. The tree is question fell on my neighbors car in the middle of the night and scared the heck out all of us slumbering people on the street. Her brand new SUV was smashed like a pancake, and the fall covered all of the surrounding concrete and grass with a few tons of wood and branches.
This paver came from a section of chainsawed trunk she kept proudly as a memento on the porch coffee table. I borrowed the wooden slice one afternoon and produced the silicone mold that makes each one of these. The brownish tint comes from acrylic paint being mixed into the concrete during production. She likes it.
